Judicial Panel invites inputs on Kumbh Stampede

Judicial Panel seeks public information on Kumbh Stampede incident

A three-member judicial panel has been set up by the Uttar Pradesh government to investigate the tragic stampede that occurred on January 29 at the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. The stampede took place on Mauni Amavasya, a significant day when lakhs of devotees gathered for a holy dip at the Sangam. This unfortunate event led to the death of 30 people and left 60 others injured.

The panel is chaired by Justice Harsh Kumar, a retired judge of the Allahabad High Court. The other two members are retired IAS officer Dinesh Kumar Singh and former IPS officer VK Gupta. Their main task is to find out what caused the stampede and suggest measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Panel requests public statements

On Wednesday, the information department officials announced that the judicial panel has invited the public to share any details they may have about the incident. People who witnessed the stampede or have relevant information are encouraged to provide statements. The panel prefers receiving these statements in the form of affidavits within the next ten days.
